Coronavirus vaccine in India(covid-19)

There are currently two vaccine for the coronavirus


Medical name: COVISHIELD, chAdox1 ncov-19.
Dose: one dose(0.5ml), viral particles(vp).
Solution: Colorless to slightly brown, clear to slightly opaque and particle free with a pH of 6.6
Therapeutic indication: COVISHIELD Indicated for active immunization of individuals>= 18 years old for prevention of covid-19 disease.
Posology and method of administration: COVISHIELD vaccination course consists of two separate doses of 0.5ml each. The second dose should be administered between 4 to 6 week after the first the dose. However, there is data available for administration of the second dose up to twelve weeks after the dose.
Side effect of vaccine:
  • pain
  • redness or swelling where the needle was given
  • muscle pain
  • headache nausea and vomiting
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Tiredness
  • joint pain

Administration: COVISHIELD is for intramuscular injection only preferably in the deltoid muscle
Ingredient: L-Histidine, L-Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate, Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate, Polysorbate 80, Ethanol, sucrose, sodium chloride, Disodium edetate dehydrate(EDTA), Water for injection.
Storage: COVISHIELD is stored and transported at refrigeration temperature of 2-8 degree Celsius.

Medical name: COVAXINTM (BBV152)
Dose: one dose (0.5 ml), inactivated vaccine.
Solution: white translucent liquid
Therapeutic Indication: COVAXIN Indicated for active immunization against SARS-CoV-2 Virus infection for age >= 18 years Posology and method of administration: COVAXIN vaccination series 2 doses given 4 weeks apart.
Administration: The COVAXIN is injected directly into the deltoid muscle that is accessible in the upper arm.
Side effect of vaccine:

  • nausea

  • headache

Ingredient: COVAXIN mainly contain 6μg of whole-virion inactivated SARS-CoV-2 antigen(strain:NIV-2020-770), and the other inactive components such as 250ug aluminum hydroxide gel, 15μg TLR/8 agonist TM 2-phenoxyethanol, and phosphate, buffer saline up to 0.5ml.
Storage: The vaccine required no sub-zero storage and reconstitution requirement and available for use in multi-dose vials, stable at 2-8*c.
